| | Era il giugno del 1967 quando il terzo arrangiamento "Light My Fire"
venne portato alla ribalta nazionale approdando nelle classifiche. L'11 di quel
mese la band prese il volo per New York per incontrare Danny Fields
dell'etichetta Elektra. Su una limousine affittata vennero portati al Village Theater
sulla Lower East Side per partecipare alle celebrazioni per il primo
anniversario della fondazione della stazione radio " WOR-FM".
L'esibizione che seguì fu un vero successo.
"Light My Fire" iniziò a scalare le classifiche tra le due coste
americane: la terza settimana di Giugno la canzone entrò Top 10 nazionale dove
rimase per un mese fino a che il 25 Luglio 1967 erano diventati i numeri uno.
"Light My Fire" rimase al primo posto in classifica ininterrottamente
fino alla metà di Agosto del 1967 e ciò permise alla band di iniziare le
registrazione per il secondo album: "Strange
Days".
Nel frattempo la Elektra Records aveva richiestoalla Record Industry Association of America
(RIAA) di certificare che il primo album dei Doors e "Light my fire"
avevano raggiunto il traguardo del disco d'oro. Il 30 Agosto 1967 Jac Holzman,
Presidente della Elektra, dichiarò pubblicamente che l'album "The Doors"
aveva superato il milione di dollari di vendite, mentre il singolo aveva
superato addirittura il milione di copie vendute.
Un anno era passato ed i Doors erano famosi. «Mettiamo su una band e
facciamo un milione di dollari»: il sogno di Jim e Ray, fantasticato sulla
spiaggia di Venice, era diventato realtà.
